We offer Khmer Pinpeat Music and Khmer Traditional Music classes. Classes are offered in-person at the museum in fall, winter, and spring terms. Each term consists of 10 class sessions.

Adult: $115/term
Child/Student: $ 85/term
10% discount will be applied, if you register and pay for two or three terms in advance.

Khmer Language Class for Children: Fri 6PM-7PM CST, Online
Fall September 2022 - November 2022
Winter December 2022 - February 2023
Our 10-Session class is designed for both native English and native Khmer speakers to learn preschool skills in the Khmer language. The emphasis of this class will be on learning beginning vocabulary, speaking and listening to basic phrases in Khmer, and pronouncing the phonetic sounds that make up Khmer words. Students will be taught to recognize and write the khmer characters. Our instructor uses child-centered learning methods that are appropriate for the developmental stages of children in this age range.
Khmer Language Class for Adults-Beginner Level 1: Wed 6PM-7PM CST, Online
Winter December 2022 - February 2023
Our 10-Session Beginner-Level I Khmer Class is the appropriate starting program for learners with limited knowledge in Khmer. In this course, the students are introduced to the Khmer language and culture. Basic skills in speaking, listening, and introduction to Khmer first series alphabet are developed. This class will be conducted using Khmer phonetics, alphabet pronunciation, tones that are related to your speaking and reading capabilities, listening comprehension, sentence structure, and dialogues.
Khmer Language Class for Adults-Beginner Level 2: Wed 6PM-7PM CST, Online
Spring April 2023 - June 2023
Our 10-Session Beginner-Level II Khmer Class is ideal for learners who have completed their Beginner Level I with our previous programs or for those who have previously learned Khmer from other sources. This course builds upon the foundation laid in Level 1. Skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Khmer are further developed in this course.
Khmer Language Class for Adults-Intermediate: Sat 10:30AM-12PM CST, In-person / Online
Winter December 2022 - February 2023

Our 10-Session Intermediate Khmer Class is an ideal class for learners who have completed their Beginner Level I & Level 2 with our previous programs or for those who have previously learned Khmer from other sources. The intermediate level places special emphasis on classroom discussion and on compositions of greater length. Students will be reading and listening from short films, magazines articles, short stories, and poems that bring students to a deeper level of cultural understanding. These resources provide for group discussions and composition allowing the student to utilize new and acquired vocabulary and grammar structures.
If you have some foundations in Khmer Language but are not sure which class should be taken, an assessment can be conducted via face-to-face Zoom meeting. It will take 10-15 minutes to complete.
